This is the story of our great expidetion into the continent of Africa.
We are Dan, Libyan born and aged 27; Wendy, South African born and aged 25 and our 2 year old daughter Cassie, Brighton Born. Together we will be travelling to Cape Town from Brighton, in the U.K, along the East Coast of Africa. We plan to make this epic journey in March 2009. If we are still on talking terms when we reach Cape Town in Dec 2009 (and money allows us too) we will travel back to the U.K via the West Coast.
It all started as a joke really. Dan threw a suggestion out of the blue at me about selling up the flat and travelling the world. This we talked about as a “dream” over the next few months and it slowly morphed from “travelling the world” into “overlanding Africa”. There were a few trepidations about losing our foot on the property ladder and travelling with a child so young. So I finally stepped up and booked in the estate agents to come and value the flat. The following week our flat was on the market. The dream of travelling through Africa was fast becoming a reality.
This trip isn’t just about the adventure of overlanding across Africa, but a chance for Wendy to see Africa, her home continent. It’s also a chance to see everything we want to and so it will probably be a long and enjoyable journey.
The only way we were able to fund our trip was to sell our 3 bed flat in Hove. This would allow us to buy our vehicle and have the funds to kit ourselves. Not only would we be able to do the trip, but we will hopefully have a little something to help us when we came back to the bump and grind of “normal” life.
And so the journey begins!
An update on the progress of our planning… We have had to abandon our plans for a while, due to various issues which meant this was not the best time for you to do the trip. Hopefully we will be able to do this sometime in the future. We are very disapointed.
